Step 8: Annealing
After cold rolling (or sometimes after hot rolling), the steel strip may undergo annealing. Annealing is a heat – treating process where the steel is heated to a specific temperature and then slowly cooled. Step 9: Surface Treatment
The steel strip also needs some surface treatment to protect it from corrosion and to improve its appearance. One common surface treatment is galvanizing, where a layer of zinc is applied to the steel. Zinc is more reactive than steel, so it corrodes first, protecting the steel underneath. Another option is painting, which can also provide a protective barrier and can be used to give the steel a specific color.
Step 10: Coiling
Finally, the treated steel strip is coiled into a large roll. This makes it easy to transport and store. The coiling process is done using a coiler machine, which winds the strip around a mandrel.
